Four workers using this heavy duty manual press can produce 500 rock hard building blocks a day, compacting a soil/cement mixture under high mechanical pressure. The press is adjustable for use with almost any soil type and just 1 bag of cement makes over 100 bricks. Blocks can be sold profitably to build walls at half the cost of the concrete block or stone walls.

Our MoneyMaker Block Press and MoneyMaker Oil Press are only available for distribution in the following East African countries:

Burundi, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Somalia, Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda. Outside these countries, these products are only available for shipment by container load.

KickStart's manually operated "Mafuta Mali" oilseed press has proved to be the most popular cooking oil press for sunflower and sesame seeds in the East and Central African region.

In 1992 the Kenyan government removed price controls on essential commodities and the price of cooking oil almost tripled in a few weeks. KickStart realized that the small-scale production and sale of cooking oil could be a very profitable small business opportunity if only the right technology was available to local entrepreneurs.

In 1993 KickStart engineers designed a manually operated oilseed press that is ideally suited for small-scale sunflower cooking oil businesses in East Africa. Called the “Mafuta Mali” (meaning “oil wealth” in Kiswahili), it was based on an original “ram press” design by Carl Bielenberg but was designed to be more efficient, durable and profitable to use. KickStart also developed and designed the first Gravity Bucket Filter to go with the press and developed a complete set of tooling for local mass production of both the press and filter. In 1994, KickStart trained four local engineering firms to manufacture the new presses.

The press extracts oil from sunflower, sesame, and other oil seeds. The filter produces clear, cold-pressed, nutritious cooking oil ready for sale or consumption. The seedcake by-product is valued as a high protein animal feed supplement.

At KickStart, our Technology Development department in Nairobi is constantly at work improving our current products and developing new money-making technology for people in the developing world.

For the foreseeable future, we will remain focused on irrigation technologies because we feel that this is where we can have the greatest impact on global poverty.

Current products in development include brand new Super MoneyMaker pump to replace our current design. With advances in manufacturing technology, we feel we can reduce our costs by $20.00 and in the process, develop a pump that is lighter and more rust-resistant, but as strong and powerful as our current model.

We are also working a Deep Well Pump that can pull water from sources deeper than 30 feet. As with our other pumps, the new design must also be able to pressurize water through a hosepipe, be portable, easy to install for an untrained person, and must be affordable for poor farmers. The list of criteria is long, but we have two possible versions in development currently. We expect to have our Deep Well Pump on the market by the end of 2009.

The Super MoneyMaker Pressure Pump was launched in October 1998, in response to a demand by farmers for a pump that can push water uphill as well as simply pulling it up from the source. This means it is suitable for use on steeply sloping land where the water source may be at the bottom. Thousands use it to pump water from hand-dug wells, rivers, streams, lakes and ponds. It is ideal for sprinkler irrigation, filling overhead water tanks, or for use with nozzles and sprays attached to the end of the delivery hose. This powerful pump can draw water up from 23 feet (7m) and has a total pumping head of 46 feet (14m). It can be used to irrigate up to 2 acres of land.

The MoneyMaker Hip Pump is unique to KickStart; developed to create a lower cost and lighter weight, portable pump. It debuted in stores in 2006. Sales and marketing efforts began in 2008. The new pump sells for about $30, is very light (only 4.5 kg or less than 10 pounds), and can irrigate an acre. A great deal of work went into designing a super efficient valve box, but the genius of the design is a simple pivot hinge

By attaching a “Hand Pump” to a hinged platform, we’ve changed the body mechanics-- allowing users to use their leg, body weight, and momentum, rather than the small muscles of the upper back and shoulders. This allows the pump be easily used to irrigate an acre or more.

Like our Super MoneyMaker, the Hip Pump can pull water from 7 meters and push water an additional 14 meters above the pump.

For more information on our pumps and technical specs, see our KickStart Pump Brochure.

has a maximum suction to lift water from 7 meters, the same as the Super MoneyMaker pump. The max pumping height is 14 meters.
As of <?=$Date_of_Update?>, over <?=$Total_Hip_Pumps_Sold?> have been sold.
